Rise (9-12)

Rise, a new Horizons at Harley program, provides year-round academic support and enrichment for high school students from the city of Rochester, many of whom would be the first in their family to attend college.

Horizons is committed to ensuring 100% of Horizons students graduate high school, and the Rise program will give students the tools not only to be college and career ready, but to launch into their futures. Currently in its second year, Rise supports 20 students from the City of Rochester and will grow to between 40-50 students as the program reaches full maturity in year four. This is in addition to the 135 students that we serve in our K-8 program.

Students enter Rise upon graduating the traditional Horizons summer program in 8th grade and work with a Horizons school counselor to create an individualized academic plan that focuses on high school graduation and beyond. Students receive ongoing academic support and attend regular small-group workshops during the school year focused on time management, study skills, financial literacy, college essay writing, and navigating the college process. Horizons also helps students find fulfilling work, internships, and/or pre-college programs in the summer, especially with role models in careers that might interest them.
