Dear Horizons at Harley Community,
As we entered our fifth week of summer, our students continued to grow academically, creatively, and socially while making memories that will last a lifetime. From hands-on STEAM activities to artistic exploration, teamwork, and joyful celebrations, every day was filled with opportunities to learn and discover.
6th Grade Explores the Memorial Art Gallery
Our 6th graders enjoyed an inspiring visit to the Memorial Art Gallery, where they experienced incredible works of art and learned how artists communicate ideas, history, and emotion through creativity. Field trips like this encourage students to think critically, ask thoughtful questions, and discover new perspectives while connecting classroom learning to the world around them.
Kindergarten Practices Mindfulness
Our youngest Horizons students took time to care for both their minds and bodies through classroom yoga during SEL time. Students practiced breathing exercises, stretching, and mindfulness techniques that help build self-regulation, focus, and emotional awareness.
These quiet moments give our students important tools they can use both inside and outside the classroom while supporting their overall well-being.
STEAM Week Begins!
This week we launched one of our favorite summer themes—STEAM Week! Throughout the week, students explored science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics through engaging, hands-on learning experiences.
K–2 Messy Science
Our youngest scientists rolled up their sleeves for some wonderfully messy fun! Students experimented with slime, oobleck, and other exciting scientific creations while exploring concepts like states of matter, observation, prediction, and problem-solving.
Learning is always more memorable when students can touch, test, and discover for themselves!
Our older students put their engineering and coding skills to work during Robotics. Working collaboratively, they designed, built, tested, and refined their robotic creations while strengthening critical thinking, perseverance, and teamwork.
Watching students troubleshoot challenges and celebrate successful solutions reminds us that innovation begins with curiosity.
Engineering Challenges
Students became engineers as they learned about bridge design and structural engineering. Working in teams, they planned, built, and tested their own bridges to discover which designs could support the most weight.
Activities like these encourage creativity, collaboration, and resilience while introducing students to real-world engineering concepts.
Looking Ahead
As we enter our final full week of summer programming, excitement is building throughout Horizons! Our students continue to challenge themselves academically while enjoying enrichment experiences they will remember for years to come.
Next week brings Spirit Week celebrations, more exciting STEAM learning, and preparations for our 8th Grade Graduation on August 7. We look forward to celebrating all that our students have accomplished this summer.
Thank you to our incredible families, staff, volunteers, and supporters for making another amazing week possible. Your encouragement and partnership help create opportunities that allow every Horizons student to learn, grow, and thrive.
Help Make Horizons Possible
Every joyful moment, every book read, every swimming lesson, every field trip, and every caring relationship our students experience is made possible through the generosity of our community.
If these stories inspire you, we invite you to invest in the futures of Rochester children. Your gift helps provide six weeks of high-quality summer learning, nutritious meals, swimming instruction, enrichment opportunities, transportation, and caring mentors who help every child thrive.
No gift is too small - every donation helps ensure that Horizons at Harley remains a place where children feel safe, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential.
Make a gift today and help change a child's summer - and their future.
Have a wonderful week!
