Horizons Saturday School - Fall 2023, Week 4

Dear Horizons at Harley Community,

This week at our Saturday enrichment program, our students had the incredible opportunity to dive into the world of capoeira with the talented Hope Kantor and the guest instructors from Capoeira Mandinga com Expressao. The capoeira class was an exhilarating experience, where students not only learned the physical techniques but also delved into the rich history and cultural significance of this Brazilian martial art. It was a vibrant fusion of dance, acrobatics, and martial arts, and our students were captivated by the energy and rhythm that filled the room. We're grateful to Hope Kantor and the guest instructors for sharing their expertise and igniting a passion for capoeira in our students.

In the realm of robotics, Ms. Birmingham led an exciting problem-solving challenge obstacle course. Our young engineers had the opportunity to put their coding skills to the test as they guided their robots through a maze of different obstacles. This hands-on activity encouraged critical thinking and teamwork as students strategized and collaborated to overcome each hurdle. The obstacle course was a true testament to the growth and creativity that our students continue to exhibit in the world of robotics.

Our Saturday activities provide valuable opportunities for children to explore their interests, develop skills, and foster social connections outside of the traditional school setting. According to Afterschool Alliance's America data, for the first time in more than a decade, the number of children in out of school programs has decreased because of financial barriers. Horizons at Harley fills a crucial need for out of school learning time for families from the Rochester City School District, but we need your support to continue this life changing program.

We believe in the transformative power of our Saturday enrichment program and its ability to enrich the lives of our students. That's why we call upon your generosity and support. By donating now at our website Horizons at https://www.horizonsatharley.org/donate/  or joining us at our Guest Bartender event at Fattey Beer Co. at 60 Adventure Place on November 14th from 5:30-8:30pm, you can make a significant difference in ensuring that financial constraints don't stand in the way of our students' growth and development. Together, we can break down these barriers and provide every child with the opportunity to explore, learn, and thrive.

Thank you for being a vital part of our Horizons at Harley community.

Have a great week.

Sincerely,
